Granatum
_
A firepit made of pomegranate
Mediterranean culture has always attributed an important symbolic value to pomegranates. From Egyptians to Arabs and Greeks; pomegranates where always on the table. First of all, because is a delicious fruit that grows well on most of the Mediterranean basin. And secondly, because of it symbology. Is a symbol of life and fertility owing to their many seeds, but also as a symbol of power, blood and death. GRANATUM is our first object, designed in reference to the old and modern Mediterranean, taking its name from the Latin name of pomegranate trees: Punica granatum.
In one of our trips to “Alhambra”, located in the always beautiful city of Granada, we could imagine its islamic patios and gardens, light up by fire. With the always present sound of water and the smell of recently cut Myrtus and orange tree blossoms.
How could that object be? And how could that object fit in our own gardens?
Starting from a perfect rounded seed, that can find its way to break its rigid walls to accommodate with other seeds alike. The same way seeds accommodate inside a pomegranate. GRANATUM is a hexagonal expression of all this and also a meeting point to gather and honor the importance of friendships. There is something that matters in fire.
